The decorations are up!

Well actually the decorations went up the weekend after US Thanksgiving like they always do, however the post hasn't gone up till now.

There are several reasons for this. The mad rush to get everything done before my c-section planned for the 22nd was on, the last minute gifts, Christmas conerts and everything else that pops up before the Holidays.

Needless to say this threw a monkey wrench into all of it...

Proud Big Brother

So there is my excuse!

Without further ado, Christmas 2010

On another note a friend approached with a small problem and small favour to ask...she wanted to know if she supplied me with some cardboard if I would be able to cut her out a Rocking Horse?!?

Hmm...this is what I came up with.

The new wreath for the front door!

While I had plans to make several new wreaths for the house. This one is the only one I did. I am running out of time and as for the plans for the Christmas ball ornament, that one will have to wait till next year.

I made this wreath with a plain garland wreath that I got on clearence at Micheals, actually all items that are on this wreath, except the bow (that was purchased at Zeller's on clearence for $2.00 a few years ago and it finally has a home) where purchased on clearence and at Micheals!

I actually had it up and hanging on the door several weeks ago, but alas I am just getting to blogging about it.

More updates of past projects to follow! I am on a deadline...13 days to go!

Just a few more to fill out...

Just a few more to fill out and all my Christmas cards will be ready for the post tomorrow.

/big sigh of relief

Here are some of the cards that will be making their way across North America. For the life of me I can't remember all the paper that was used. Some of it is Stampin up card stock as well as one or two Stampin up stamps. Fiskars snowflake punch and Deja Views rub-ons. Sorry I can't be more specific for those that might want to know every product that was used.

Some of them are simple and others have a bit more to them. I guess I am just a simple girl at heart.

Ok, well I have no idea why these pictures are not loading correctly, but it's better then them not loading at all.

Not sure about this...

Not really sure what to think about this! Any thoughts? Anyone ever have one?

The annual tradition of the Christmas Train...

The annual CPR Christmas Train rolled through Portage La Prairie the other day and we were there once again to see it.

The first time I ever saw the train was a very frigid night in Moose Jaw, SK back in the early days of being married and my husband starting out his career in CAF. It was a sight to behold, even if I could no longer feel most of my body!

Many years later, we have once again found ourselves in a place that allows us to see this sight, as well as being older, we are much smater and stay in the car to see it!

Keegan thinks it is the coolest thing ever...and so do I!

Teacher's Gifts 2010

So last year I made and gave away cookies in a jar. I labeled them "ChasingKeegan Cookies."

This year, I saw an idea on a blog that I read on how to make Homemade Hot Chocolate. I got the recipe from Citrus's Blog. There is also a recipe for Homemade Marshmellows there as well, however I used this recipe.

The Hot Chocolate made and waiting to go into it's bags...

The test run for the marshmellows...

And since this is my test run for the marshmellows, I decided to try out some other flavours, rather then just the crushed candy canes onto top to see what worked better using sprinkles from Pamperd Chef.

So depending on how the taste test goes, finished gift pictures to follow.

On another note, completely unrelated, I came upstairs late to bed the other night, only to find this...

Isn't it great to have a King sized bed and there be absolutely no room for you to sleep between the hubby and 3 dogs. I guess the one good thing was that the gnomelit was fast asleep in his own bed and only after 10 mins I was finally able to get the lab to move to her pillow on the floor.

An update for the holiday season

There was a link for templates on one of the forums that I read. So I decided to take a little looksie and I found this holiday template that allowed me to do a quick change and give the blog an update! As my poor pregnant mind is having issues with my html that I was trying to change.

So, here we are. The blog gets a holiday over haul and the house is about to get one this afternoon.

Then the plan for this week is to get all the gifts finished up and add it all to the blog...so that I am one step closer to being where I want to be before this little one makes his arrival on Dec 22nd!

Ack where has all my time gone.

Here's the link to her great blog and there is something for everyone!

Crazy...

Well life has been turned upside down. So much for that whole New Year's resolution. Super Women I am not! :(

While this blog is for no one but me...I still wanted to try and make it something special...I guess it will be left as a WIP!

Brown Sugar Blend Banana Cake

I found this recipe while flipping through a magazine and thought not only did it look good, but it looked easy and quick.

Well it was easy and quick and and it tasted great. The only differences I made were, I forgot the yougurt so I used light sour cream as that is what I had on hand and used dark chocolate chip rather then semi sweet.

Ingredients:

Cake
¾ cup (175 mL) SPLENDA® Brand Brown Sugar Blend
½ cup (125 mL) Crisco® Canola or Vegetable Oil
2 (2) eggs
½ cup (125 mL) plain yogurt
3 (3) ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 ½ cups/ 375 mL)
2 tsp (10 mL) vanilla
2 cups (500 mL) Robin Hood® Nutri™ Flour Blend
1 tsp (5 mL) baking powder
¾ tsp (4 mL) baking soda
¼ cup (5 mL) Chipits®* Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
Filling
1 (1) banana, sliced
icing sugar for garnish (optional)
Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350ºF (180ºC). Grease two 8” or 9” (22 cm or 23 cm) cake pans.
2. Cake: Beat brown sugar blend and oil with an electric mixer. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Add next 6 ingredients. Beat to combine. Fold in chocolate chips. Pour batter into prepared pans.
3. Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in centre of cake comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes. Remove from pans and cool on a wire rack.
4. Assembly: Place 1 layer of cake on serving platter. Place sliced bananas on top. Place remaining cake on top. Sprinkle with icing sugar if desired.

My double handle "kidlet"

Well, I finally managed to sit down and be creative! I stumbled upon Jennifer's website JCasa *handmade and her amazing tutorial for her affectional named "kidlet's this tutorial by far has been one of the easiest, well laid out tutorials I have ever used! Plus, for a visual learner, the picture's throughout were icing on the cake.

The first one I made, I made more or less following the exact pattern. I did goof on the placement of the pocket, but all in all I think that it turned out great.

On the next couple, which I made some changes, I added a second handle and through some trial and error, mostly error, I got the placement and enough stiching to hold the handles so that they didn't pull out from the finished bag. I blame this solely on my very novice sewing skills.

I need to make a couple more for upcoming birthdays, but I just love them.

I have been busy

Hopefully will be posting tomorrow what I have been up and into. Needless to say my last sewing project resulted in the demise of my sewing machine and with the project half-way completed and the party the next day I was forced to buy a sewing machine at Walmart...more on that later.

Back to the grind while the little one is asleep...

Where does the time go...

It only seems like yesterday and it was the beginning of January and yet here I find myself in the month of March. What a crazy past two months it has been. I have been busy, busy, busy. My last session of classes are over and I am currently building my schdule for the next set to run in April and May. The art/music class that I taught with a friend went really well and we seemed to have generated more interest in running another, so we are currently working on meshing our schedules to see what will work for the both of us.

In other news, last week Keegan and I got to hold an Olympic torch, which was in fact rather cool.

January 26, 2010

oops...

Well it seems the whole once a week thing has already, well...oops!

Turning 32 and feeling it, not to mention a sick one has caused my life to become somewhat chaotic since my last post...and the never-ending insanity that is my life!

So last week while the little guy wasn't all that well, I "mopped" and really didn't do all that much and it felt...GREAT! However, the price is now being payed as the finally week of January steam rolls ahead and I am playing catch-up...but this is where I excel.

So with a snow day yesterday I was able to accomplish a massive to-do list for the Nursery School, get a few of my own things done and then spend some curled up time with the gnomelit playing x-box...while hubby dutifully went out to brave the winter weather and rescue us from being snowed under in the blizzard...personally I think that he is having an affair with that snow blower! lol

Was called into work this morning, went well and I even managed to knock a few more things off my to-do list and finally got the coding to work and have now added...drum roll please...

My upcoming classes with working links...ya me! I know you can all go and laugh, but I was having such issues with the coding, it didn't want to take the one type that seems to work everywhere but here! :(

So I am thinking that another code and web design course might be in my future, but for now the massive yellow and black book will have to do...don't you just love dummy books!

2010 and resolutions...

I cannot believe that the new year is upon us already. While I have been remiss, yet again in blogging, mind you I really only do it for myself as I have no delusions of a large fan base. All my good intentions of last year have gone by the way side.

So once again, I find myslef at the beginning of a new year with hopes, dreams, aspiriations and goals. While I will not be making any new years resolutions they always tend to fall by the way side I am going to make a list of things that I would love to accomplish/learn/do.

In reading a blog I follow,  Vanessa has choosen to have a word of the year and while at first I thought it kinda silly, I changed my mind when I saw hers and have decided to borrow her choice (I hope she doesn't mind).

focus

That is what I am going to be doing this year, while I did have some focus in the last few months of last year being sick, Christmas drained me. So I am starting fresh, and in doing so I have set some goals.

Learn to be a better photographer
Finish all my crafts on my to-do list
Catch up and continue to scrapbook for the fun of it
Continue to teach my art classes
Read my growing back log of books
Find time for just me
Enjoy the moments
Pay off the debt (yuck)
Try and blog once a week
Try and post pictures to ShutterCal once a week

and finally to "just be"

Well, that is about it from here...whether I accomplish all these goals will not be measured in a pass/fail scenario but by how I feel at the end of the day.

Hello 2010, I look foward to our journey together...mind you not about the whole getting a year older in 9 days...yikes!
